Health Care - What is Health Care

Back to the Care Fees Adviser Home PageHealth Care - What is Health Care

The law makes a distinction between health care and social care.

Health Care is medical care.

Medical care is provided by the National Health Service (NHS).  You will not normally be expected to pay any self contribution for your health care.  This also includes:

  • District nursing
  • Chiropody
  • Physiotherapy
  • Incontinence materials

In simple terms for health care, they will pay for your medicine and health issues but not necessarily your bed.

If you have a medical need, generally irrespective of where that might by e.g. at home, in hospital or in a care home, this should be funded by the National Health Service.
